Cleaning the Roof
The first step in this process is cleaning the roof. Particles and debris can mess with the coating and ultimately render it ineffective. Therefore, the roof has to be thoroughly scrubbed before the coating can be applied. We’ll start by manually removing any large objects up there, such as tree branches. When that is complete, we’ll give the roof a good sweeping. Going over the entire surface several times is important to remove gravel or small rocks.
After sweeping, we power-wash the entire thing. Even dust particles on the roof can mess with the elastomeric coating, so a thorough power wash is essential. When we’re satisfied that the roof is sparkling clean, we can move on to step two.
Roof Inspection
Now that the roof is clean, it’s a lot easier to inspect the roof. Before we even started with cleaning the roof, we checked it for major damage as part of our estimate. All repairs have to be done before the coating is applied, so if we found something significant before, we have already discussed it with you.
This inspection is about the little details. We’re looking for small cracks or dents in the roofing structure. Any imperfection has to be assessed because we don’t want to be filling gaps with the elastomeric coating when it really needs to be fixed. That will only cause more problems.
As we find little imperfections in the roof, we will patch or repair them to prepare for the next step.
Coating Application
The roof is ready. It’s clean, and there are no repairs needed that concern us. We can begin applying the coating. This process will depend on the type of coating we are applying. Each has its pros and cons, and we will go over all of that before you commit to a coating, so you’ll know what you’re getting.
Typically, we will use a combination of sprayers, rollers, and brushes. We will ensure that a sufficient layer of coating is applied to the entire surface of the roof. Curing
We aren’t quite done yet. The last step is mostly about waiting. First, we have to let the coating dry. This typically takes about a day. From there, it still has to cure, which can take a few days. We will do a quick inspection of the dry roof to make sure it doesn’t need any additional work. Assuming it doesn’t, we’ll come back after it cures for a final inspection. We’ll ensure that everything is done to our high standards. Assuming the work is completely finished, we’ll let you know how it all went. That’s all there is to it.
